Knew I had to try this location after being in NOLA a couple years ago and trying the original. I was not disappointed! The staff was great, super attentive and eager to make us feel welcome. The parking was easy and traffic was not crazy at the time we were there. The place was small but well maintained. Love the red beans, it's definitely my favorite next to the chicken.

Oh wow! I found a piece of home in LA and we truly enjoyed it. The food, service and establishment were wonderful. The fired its are cooked to order (as they should be) so be prepared to wait. My only critique is the cornbread is that the cornbread was old and macaroni noodles were over cooked, but I still cleaned my plate.

QUICKIE REVIEW Taste of New Orleans in LA. FOOD This is what I tried: -Taste of New Orleans with gumbo, red beans & rice, and potato wedges The chicken is fried very well (as in good, not over done). The wedges were surprisingly done perfectly. Gumbo has bold seafood flavor. Some will love it, others may find it to be a bit much. PARKING Yes, around the back or street parking. SERVICE Good. Waitress set us down and kept up with us. PRICE Expect around $50 for two. TIP/OTHER THOUGHTS Discovered this place when I was planning my trip to New Orleans. The original location is burned down in NOLA but to my surprise they had a location in LA. Whenever the one in NOLA is rebuilt, would love to have the original. They have a bold claim of best fried chicken in America at that location.

Best fried chicken in L.A., if not the US...and since the NOLA original is currently closed, the only place you can get it. Crispy coating and juicy, flavorful, well-seasoned meat...just delicious. The sides are nicely made as well (although I might shy away from the sweet potatoes if you don't have a sweet tooth. The space is nothing fancy, but pleasant and well lit; the friendly service adds to the NOLA feeling. One modern tweak: it's cashless.

Omggggg NOLA has come to Venice! I swear, I was nervous about a satellite Cali location because I've been to the OG in New Orleans! However, one bite in the mac and cheese, HEAVEN. Then one bite into the chicken, an infinite eternity of bliss~! Alright coming back to earth now, I finally made my way to Willie Mae's nearly two years after they opened. They have some free parking in the back with EV chargers, though we couldn't get ours to work. Seating is all inside with a table outside in the front. They use Yelp Waitlist so you can add yourself when there's a wait ahead of time, or book a reservation directly on Yelp to be set. THE FOOD THOOOO....My goodness I have delicious memories in Louisiana of biting into this incredibly plump chicken with perfectly seasoned and spiced bits of crisp on the outside. Hours ago, I got that same exact feeling. The chicken here is juicy as heck and I swear, that spicy goodness on the skin was just the same and had my mouth pop, lock and drop it. The mac and cheese is soooo creamy, flavor-filled and perfect. It was a little more runny than the other location but s'all good, it tasted wonderful all the same. And I still love their buttery mini cornbreads. Perfect size for me and being a bit smaller, they don't get dry as quick. Love them. Pro-Tip: GO IN PERSON! It's so much better crisp, hot and fresh. Big portions, good prices, chill atmosphere with sports games playing on their TVs. I miss the cute little Grandma, lolz, but I'll def be back! So happy Willie Mae's has come to LA~!

Willie Mae's has been on my list to try for a while and finally got a chance today. Made a last minute reservation on Yelp and headed over. When we arrived, it wasn't too busy and we were seated immediately. My son and I placed our orders and the food came out shortly after. We both ordered the same thing - 2 piece fried chicken with 1 side and a cornbread muffin. For his side, he chose the mac n cheese and I chose the candied yams. Fried chicken - 5 out of 5: Juicy, fresh, hot, and flavorful! It's right on the edge of too salty, but it doesn't go over. It also has a nice spicy kick that isn't overwhelming, but you know it's there. Would definitely come back just for this! Mac N Cheese - 4 out of 5: Creamy, great flavor, but not hot enough. Not sure if it was sitting for a while before they finished plating, but could have definitely benefited from being several degrees warmer. Cornbread muffin - 5 out of 5: Moist, sweet, and delicious! Candied Yams - 1 out of 5 There was something wrong with them. Zero sweetness, odd texture, and very weird tasting. The manager came and checked on them because he could tell from my face something was wrong. He went to the back to check to see what happened, came back and said "I just tasted them and you're right. Something is wrong. We apologize." So they got me some Mac n cheese and all was well. I'd like to try them on a good day, but today was not it! I'll update my review when I get another chance to try them. Service - 5 out of 5: This helped make up for the yams. The service was quick, friendly, and attentive. Value - 3.5 out of 5 $17 for a 2 piece with 1 side and a piece of cornbread is a little high, but the food is delicious. If you're looking for some delicious fried chicken and in the area, I highly recommend stopping by!

We came here on a weekday afternoon and when we first arrived, it wasn't crowded at all. They're actually wasn't anybody in there except some employees having a meeting off to the side once we were greeted by the employees behind the counter she seated us for the indoor and it was so she gave us those menus and then their original menus, it was really clean in there. They do offer beer and wine, but we just got the water and lemonade. I got the seafood gumbo. I did ask for no rice and but rice on the side. It was within the gumbo. I don't know if it was initially made like that, but I do wish our server would've went ahead and communicated that it wasn't a big deal dietary preference . Another person in our party got the catfish and shrimp platter. The shrimp were actually really good. I like the batter and they weren't salty. The shrimp were butterfly the shrimp on the powder better than the shrimp and the gumbo shrimp and the gumbo small shrimp. They did put a lot of shrimp in the gumbo though. I also tasted the fried chicken, which is pretty good. It was crispy to meat had a taste of Asian spices and across between Popeyes. Their cornbread is also really good. I would like to go back to take a gander and other things on the menu service was about a 7.5 /8
